The Server Storage Operations team provides a challenging and function-critial role in supporting the availability of a secure and stable IT operating environment for the department’s staff. The occupant will provide support to the Chief Information Officer and Deputy CIO in planning for the delivery of a challenging suite of work covering business as usual (BAU) and capital projects.
The successful occupant will need to demonstrate the ability to plan for and implement delivery of major change and support the team through functional and structural adjustment.
The Role manages the departments delivery of compute, data storage, back-up and identity functions including key systems monitoring tools such as Splaunk and Solarwinds. The department has adopted a hybrid multi-cloud strategy and operates a mixture of on-premise and AWS and Azure cloud environments with a clear direction towards cloud adoption.
Key responsibilities include:
lead and manage a team of technical specialists to ensure the department operates an effective, secure, stable and cost-effective ICT environment which meets business needs and complies with whole of government requirements
support the departments cloud adoption strategy through leading the current team’s transition to cloud services
support the effective delivery of an annual suite of work, including ICT projects and significant transformational activities
help shape the department’s forward ICT strategies and deliver against agreed objectives
work with the CIO, Deputy CIO, peers and key stakeholders on the alignment of technical solutions and internal business strategies/requirements
work with management and vendors to assist with providing systems and services
support effective business continuity and disaster recovery processes and maintain suitable readiness
contribute to the forecasting of system costs to ensure effective budget management
ensure procedures are followed to minimise risk of system outages, instability, or inconsistencies due to system changes, by enforcing risk mitigation strategies
effectively manage contracts to ensure vendors provide critical and cost-effective services to the department
contribute to the overall management of the Branch; and
develop staff in the Section and contribute to the overall workforce strategy of the Division.

Candidates should possess good communication, organisational, change management and interpersonal skills, and an ability to develop a sound working knowledge of the department’s IT environments.
