Our Opportunity

The Royal Commission requires an experienced project manager (Executive Level 2 or equivalent) to plan, oversee and lead the development of the Commission’s final report. This is a senior role requiring interaction and collaboration with staff across all branches and across each of the Commission’s four locations – Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra. The role would be primarily based in Sydney, with occasional travel to other locations. The project manager would be supported by a small team of more junior project management and administrative staff.  

Reporting to the Assistant Secretary, Data, Research and Publications Branch, key responsibilities include:

  • co-ordination of the final and progress reports delivered by the Commission including schedule development and management
  • ensuring that the final report of the Commission is delivered on time and to the highest quality standards
  • managing a small team focussed on delivering against this objective
  • providing guidance across the Commission on requirements of the final report, and critical deadlines required to meet delivery timeframes
  • co-ordinating draft content for reports from all areas of the Commission, including monitoring and reporting on progress against the agreed schedule
  • co-ordination of internal and external editing support reports delivered by the Commission.

The successful applicant will have:

  • strong project management expertise in the field and extensive experience working as a Project Manager, ideally with project management experience co-ordinating a major publication
  • experience in project management or publications management in a government setting or experience working with government agencies (preferred)
  • experience using Project management software and maintaining a comprehensive schedule for the delivery of large projects (preferably in the context of a major publication)
  • experience managing project risks and designing risk mitigation strategies
  • experience designing and implementing progress dashboards and more detailed reports for executive staff
  • high-level written and verbal communication skills and an ability to effectively negotiate, and manage and resolve conflict
  • ability to work in a high pressure environment and ensure delivery within tight timeframes
  • excellent time management skills, and an ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously
  • strong leadership and coordination skills
  • excellent attention to detail
  • the ability to uphold and model the APS Values, Code of Conduct, Employment Principles and AGD Performance Expectations.
