Our Opportunity

The Media and Communications Team provides communication and media management services for the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (DRC). The Director leads, guides, and mentors a small team of communication specialists to ensure communication advice and media services are effectively delivered.

Reporting to the Official Secretary, responsibilities include:

  • leading the team to provide efficient and highly effective strategic communication and media advice, products and activities for the DRC
  • providing ongoing liaison and media/communication advice to stakeholders
  • providing strategic communication advice, including market research, media campaigns, project planning, digital communication, media and social media management, stakeholder engagement, and production of communication products including documents in Easy Read format
  • managing the Royal Commission’s online communication channels, including websites and social media.

The successful applicant will have:

  • tertiary qualifications in communications/journalism/publishing or related fields
  • significant media and issues management experience, and a proven record in developing and implementing effective communication strategies
  • the ability to work effectively in high pressure environments with high workloads and tight timeframes
  • excellent judgment, the ability to build and nurture effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, and strong writing skills
  • a broad understanding of the work of the DRC
  • strong leadership skills, including demonstrated experience leading a team
  • the ability to uphold and model the APS Values, Code of Conduct, Employment Principles and AGD Performance Expectations.
