Our Opportunity

The role of Senior Payroll Officer requires a person with strong payroll expertise and attention to detail.  The position requires a motivated person with strong organisational skills and a commitment to providing high quality customer service.

Within the Payroll team, you will undertake a range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • provide payroll advice based on the department’s Enterprise Agreement, Commonwealth legislation and policy guidelines
  • prioritising own workloads in order to meet payroll deadlines and managing reporting tasks
  • liaise with internal and external stakeholders on payroll related matters to maintain compliance and ensure positive customer outcomes
  • respond to moderately complex customer enquiries via telephone, email and written correspondence, including in the context of non-routine inquiries
  • contributing to the development and implementation of enhancements to existing practices and procedures and innovative new approaches to meeting key performance indicators.

Specific requirements of the role:

  • a sound understanding of and a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply APS conditions of service, in accordance with the established legislation, workplace agreement and policy
  • demonstrated knowledge of Human Resource Management Information Systems (preferably Aurion).
