The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety was established on 8 October 2018.

The Hon Justice Joseph McGrath and Ms Lynelle Briggs AO have been appointed as Royal Commissioners. The Letters Patent for the Royal Commission detail the Commission's terms of reference.

The Commissioners are required to provide an interim report by 31 October 2019, and a final report by 30 April 2020.

The Royal Commission will be based in Adelaide however, it is anticipated that hearings will be conducted throughout Australia.

The Temporary Employment Register is open for candidates to register their interest in employment with the Royal Commission. The temporary employment register enables the department to access appropriately skilled and experienced individuals at short notice for short term employment opportunities.

Your application should indicate the areas of work you have expertise and experience in, the types of work you are interested in, and also your qualifications.

Vacancies will be filled on a non-ongoing basis for periods of up to 18 months.


The Royal Commission is seeking candidates from a range of disciplines who are interested in non-ongoing employment opportunities currently available, or which may arise within the life of the Royal Commission.

The positions will mostly be located in Adelaide CBD. However, a small number of positions may be based in Canberra.

Positions may become available in the following functions:

  • Accounting and finance
  • Community engagement
  • Communications, marketing and media
  • Counselling and support
  • Executive Assistant
  • Human Resources
  • Information and communications technology
  • Information and knowledge management
  • Legal
  • Ministerial and parliamentary
  • Office administration
  • Project management
  • Property and security
  • Strategic policy research and report writing


Due to the nature of the content some employees may be dealing with, candidates may be required to participate in a psychological assessment as part of the recruitment process. Results will be considered along with outcomes of interviews, reference checks and consideration of resumes to assist the selection panel in making final decisions. Successful candidates may also be required to participate in a dedicated wellbeing support program as part of their employment.
